One way to keep momentum going is to have constantly greater goals. – Michael Korda
You had a great start. You started the race with a bang! You felt great. You thought you would conquer the world.
But then things happen. Things started to act against you. You weren’t feeling well. The weather wasn’t feeling well. There was something going on. You had some difficulties.
And days turned to weeks. And weeks turned to months.
And before you knew it, you had stopped doing it.
To form a new habit, you have to keep on doing it. However, how would you persist if you stopped doing the very thing that is necessary for success?
Stay calm. Don’t take things too seriously. It is OK to fail. It is OK to stop. All you need to do is to pick yourself up again.
Celebrate. Create milestones. Congratulate yourself once you have achieved certain mini goals. It is important to give yourself positive reinforcement.
Get peer support. No man is destined to be an island. Your journey need not to be lonely. We strive better with supportive friends.
Don’t make it a habit to stop. Stopping for a day is fine, but never two days in a row. When you stop for three days, you have to pick it up immediately. The longer you delay on resuming your activities, the harder it is. It feels like the whole world is against you. Pick yourself up immediately whenever you feel like you are left behind.
It is not the end of the world if you would ever fall behind. It is the end of the world if you are to give up on yourself, to give up on your dreams, to give up on your aspirations.
Keep the momentum going.
My ambition comes from my passion; finding what I love and then expanding on that. Miranda Kerr
Reading the post with the same title on Business Insider set me thinking.
Amy Cuddy cautioned of setting goals purely on the outcome only, without considering the process.
And my thoughts on it?
A goal, too big and too audacious, deters one from taking the first step.
A goal has to be challenging enough, but not too unrealistic.
If they face obstacles along the way, which inevitably will, they are not equipped to overcome it.
One must visualize to have success. But to visualize, he has to visualize on both having successfully achieve his goals, and also on how he overcome the struggles along the way.
Create milestones along the way, and achieve it. They serve as feedback, if you are on track on meeting your goals.
Your success in life depends much on how you really set your goals. Do it wisely. Plan it carefully.
The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate. – Oprah Winfrey
Celebrate your success. Celebrate your milestones!
That doesn’t mean that you are being egoistic. Or arrogant. Or bragging.
No. It doesn’t mean you are showing off too.
It is actually a good thing. Really.
It improves your self esteem. You respect yourself more. You do not pity yourself, for you have success along your way.
You appreciate of the tiny things in life. Of everything that you are capable of doing.
You are more confident. You have done it before, and you can definitely do it again. It is evident that you have the capabilities of succeeding.
If you are feeling down and out, you can refer back to the past success that you have. Of all your accomplishment. Enough with the whining, and get back to work. You can redeem yourself.
It’s always feel good to celebrate success. A simple way of being happy.
Make it a habit to celebrate life, and to celebrate the things that you have done. Stay cheerful and embrace life.
