Commitment vs Passion

Once you have commitment, you need the discipline and hard work to get you there. – Haile Gebrselassie

People always said, you need to follow your passion.

But is this always THE right decision?

What if you aspire to be an artist, and yet you are struggling to feed your family?

Always remember your commitment. What are you committed to? Is it supporting your family? Giving them a reasonably comfortable life? Even if it means taking mundane desk-bound work?

Passion is important. It would make your journey in being committed a whole lot easier. But what if you didn’t have the passion in your work? Could you still do a good job?

The answer is yes. Passion makes it a whole lot easier. Without passion, the work would be more difficult. Difficult, yes, but it is not impossible. Always remember what is your commitment. What is the end result that you want to achieve?

Be responsible. Be a responsible adult. One who knows what he needs to do, at appropriate timing.

Going back to the struggling artist. What should he do? Should he be committed and forget about his passion?

No! He must first understand that he is committed to his family, to provide a living to them. A mundane full time job.

At the same time, he must be committed to his dreams. He must pursue his passion without fail, at the time outside his working hours.

Would it be tough? Yes! No one ever said it is going to be easy. It will be an uphill trail.  Twenty years on. Would you be more regretful of the difficult tasks that you have taken or the dreams that you have let go?
